originally built at the end of the 19th century as a gentleman’s residence, but for the last 40 years has been run as a guest house, gradually evolving to the boutique b&b that it is today. the last 25 years have seen just three owners, with sandra, chris and their family taking the reins last year. the house remains the family’s home, and many of our guests comment that their experience of tir y coed is not unlike being at an indulgent house party with friends in the country. think large, comfortable beds with luxurious feather and down duvets, fluffy white towels, a cosy drawing room with a wood burning stove, and a balcony overlooking the gardens and the mountains. expect chilled out informality, home-baked bread, freshly cooked breakfasts, offering the best from local butchers, and in the evening, a convivial, well-stocked bar. outside is an acre of garden, lots of trees (obviously!) and quiet spots to sit and relax. bodnant gardens is only a few miles away and whoever laid out the gardens here would have been inspired by that wonderful landscape, which is always high on the list of places people visit whilst here. escape surrounded by mature landscaped gardens on the edge of of attractions such as surf snowdonia, the world’s largest artificial surfing lagoon (5 minutes away) and zip world, where you can reach 100 mph on the longest zip wire in europe or ride the tree-top toboggan, where you control how fast you travel. great walks, beaches, world class golf and mountain biking facilities, unique steam train journeys, the national white water centre for kayakers and canoeists, and miles of pristine, and often deserted, scenic roads are all part of the experience. so whether you want to find your inner bradley wiggins (or jeremy clarkson) climb a mountain (on foot or by train) or take a crash course in surfing without worrying about whether there actually will be any surf, you will not have far to go. find out more energise … and leave relaxed no hustle and we stepped through the front door … a privately owned hotel run by enthusiastic staff is a benchmark that is hard to beat as we discovered during our stay. @macabethiel tripadvisor what a wonderful
